Name: Yatta, a.k.a.- Kelvin George Boys-Yates
Date of Birth: 29th June 1952
Place of birth: Walsall, The Black Country, England
Current residence: Mostyn, Flintshire, North Wales
Education: Educated at Edward Shelley Grammar School, Walsall. (gained the usual number of old fashioned 'O' and 'A' levels).
Qualifications: Studied at college and became research and development engineer after an apprenticeship at a large engineering firm in Darlaston.
Musical experience: During my education years, I started playing drums semi-professionally, my first gigs being with a showband in 1962, my mother played keyboards on the club circuit, my grandmother was an actress and my great grandfather owned the music hall in Walsall, so it was no surprise when I started gigging so young.
I played with lots of different bands in different styles of music turning professional after I gained my qualifications. One of my best times was when I played a short time with Ozzy and the great Randy Rhodes in the first Blizzard of Oz, also I was in a band called Heart & Soul - we backed Otis Redding, Wilson Picket, Sam & Dave on the Stax tours in the sixties, there were many enjoyable moments and I finished being a muso in 1982 after 20 years and moved over the other side of the tracks. I became Production manager for Magnum, it was during this time (6 years) when I met Fish for the first time. My lighting designer was the same person as Marillion's, his name was Chops. So we met when Magnum supported the Marill's at Lorely, Germany in 86.
I finished with Magnum in 88 and went to work for LSD the lighting company where I worked with many artists, until I started working for Fish in 91. I became his production manager in 1993.
Some of the bands I've worked with at various levels: Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Budgie, Bros, Europe, Level 42, The Who, Eric Clapton, Diana Ross, Pink Floyd, Luther Vandross, Prince, Scorpions, Rod Stewart, Judas Priest, Dio, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Kiss, Chris Rea, Gary Moore, UB40, David Bowie, Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Metallica, Guns & Roses and Cliff Richard.
There's plenty more but I'm now going to pour and drink myself a vodka and apple juice. Cheers and all the best, Yatta.
