All kinds of stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else

Now, now.

Lettuce has its place. In a nice sandwich a good iceberg lettuce will give a bit of crunch without compromising the taste of the beast.

On it's own though? The mind boggles.

What's this? The lettuce defense league?! - It's only a leaf. It deserves to be criticised!

It's ok if you cook it properly

if you 1/4 little gem or bottom half of romaine, with stalk intact, rub with garlic, drizzle with olive oil and do in a griddle pan or George Foreman until tender, it can be palatable. BUt i prefer using young spinach leaves with fresh herbs in a salad, maybe pea shoots & watercress too.

But another stupid food is "jus".
If it is too thin, it drips off your food and down your shirt. Proper gravy is required! Robust stuff that built the foundations of us lardy blokes in Yorkshire.

Jon, you're a chef. Can you tell me as a professional, what are the point of croutons? :?

Re: Stupid Foods

All depends on how dry and crisp they are when put in soup, moisture absorbtion rate, and the viscosity of the soup then has a correlation to absorbtion rate, so it's a textural thing. But croutons are also good in a salad for texture.
Maybe you should eat your soup faster before the croutons go soggy, or have thicker soup and crispier croutons.

Do you dunk your biscuits in your brew?

Ah, now I can see the point of throwing a few in a salad to give the lettuce more flavour, but in a soup it's a non-starter. ;)

No, I don't dunk biscuits.

Croutons. I love croutons! They're not meant to go soggy in the soup!
Arcade, something that you'll commonly find on menus down here: Goats cheese salad with croutons ( could be garlic croutons), salad, bacon, honey, balsamic vinegar, walnuts...you have to try this at home.
