If it is too thin, it drips off your food and down your shirt. Proper gravy is required! Robust stuff that built the foundations of us lardy blokes in Yorkshire.

Aye. Bloody right. Jus' give us some bloody gravy! ;)

Maybe you should eat your soup faster before the croutons go soggy, or have thicker soup and crispier croutons.

Do you dunk your biscuits in your brew?

Ah, now I can see the point of throwing a few in a salad to give the lettuce more flavour, but in a soup it's a non-starter. ;)

No, I don't dunk biscuits.

Croutons. I love croutons! They're not meant to go soggy in the soup!
Arcade, something that you'll commonly find on menus down here: Goats cheese salad with croutons ( could be garlic croutons), salad, bacon, honey, balsamic vinegar, walnuts...you have to try this at home.

Now that is what I call the food of the Gods. :D

Sometimes your crouton becomes a crostini, a nice slice, instead of a cube, rubbed with garlic, drizzled with olive oil then crisped in a grill pan, rubbed with tomatoes and topped with some prosciutto or sausage and a sprinkle of fresh herbs. Not so stupid! :D

Let me make this absolutely clear, I only find soggy croutons stupid! - If someone can show me a crouton that will stay crisp in a bowl of soup, while you take your time enjoying and savouring the soup, then I will withdraw my statement!

All I know is, I've been in many different restaurants with friends, and almost without fail, I've watched everyone of them who has ordered soup, off-load cubes of mushy grease-ridden bread onto the sides of their serving plates.

I agree- gravy is a special thing , makes the meal-not thin, watery stuff- but, nice, thick and tasty- wondering how we all make ours? I use meat juices, cornflour, and bisto, an oxo, and a teaspoon of marmite- and red wine if having beef-anyone else- Conan?

To be honest Mar, I like my gravy quite thin and definately not salty. Salty gravy can kill a roast dinner.

Well, I have never had any complaints- they all say my gravy is the best.

No, I wasn't calling you or your gravy! - I was just pointing out my own strange tastes! :)
