I get so worn out by the "this is a once in a lifetime experience" thing.
I am also so worn out of being told "thats not very patriotic"
I am not anti royal. nor am I english
But let the Royals play for their own parties.

Good luck to Queen Elizabeth the First of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, German by descent, who got on the throne through a history of blood shed, arranged marriages, political manoeuvring. I hope everyone is enjoying themselves in London, which became the capital of Britain, only because James VI of Scotland, chose it rather than Edinburgh, when he was asked to take over the throne, because it was nearer to his homeland of France.

Very British indeed.

The unfortunate thing is that the majority of Brits don't even know their own history.

German descent? The House of Hannover came to the throne in 1714, certainly not a recent attachment and the last influx of German Blood was Albert, who he died in the 19th Century. How long does someone have to live in this country before they are deemed British? There is actually more Greek blood in the Royal dynasty, but no we have to harp on about German blood. For the record it has also had Scottish, Welsh, Danish, Dutch and of course French, who are direct descendants as well. The first King to speak English after Harold in 1066 was the despised King John, whereas his brother, the much admired Richard the Lionheart saw himself as, and spoke, French.

Yes I do know my royal family history. I also know how the Scottish Stuarts, or Stewards as they were at that time, kept changing sides during the War of Independence during Wallace's and Bruce's time and how they lost the throne of England not once, but Twice. Once can be seen as unfortunate, but twice???? whereas Elizabeth has managed to hold onto it for 60years.... That is what is being celebrated.

However, none of that was really the point of this thread. :)

Chrck the lineage and who married who.... German descent, even changing their name to Windsor as a result..

However you do reinforce my point too... ;)

The name was changed during the First World War, to make it clear whose side they were on  . We could argue that Kaiser Wilhelm was of English descent (related to Victoria).

However, as I said, that wasn't the point of this thread.

The original post.

Its not an extra couple of days off as you wrongly point out, its a delayed Late Spring bank holiday, moved into june, to give a long weekend with the extra days holiday for the jubilee. Which i disagreed with from the outset.

I am avoiding the jubilee. Which i have no interest in and hate the peer pressure put upon me to join in on jubillee activities, being told I'm being non patriotic and anti royal.

So, visiting family and friends and enjoying better weather than down south.

Each to there own, If you want to celebrate the jubilee then go ahead enjoy and have fun. but don't try and force it upon people who couldn't care less lke me.
I'm appreciative of the extra day off, but that was also forced upon me, if it had of been upto me i would have rather gone to work, because now when i go back to work on Wednesday i'll have to do 5 days work in 3, which is nigh on impossible as there is a weight limit on the delivery vans we drive, so they will probably ask us to work Saturday to catch up, so much for the extra day off.

Even though I do not believe we should even have a Royal Family I most certainly found that last quote just a bit patronising.
