The Queen wasn't there when he performed, which must have been disappointing for him. She didn't see Cliff either, but she didn't miss much. I think they'll understand. Tom Jones was good, as was Shirley Bassey. Must be so hard for Queenie without her unwavering support over the last 60 years behind her. Will have been a tough weekend on her, all told, and she's fared so well. I would doff my hat to her.

I have to admit having enjoyed the weekend despite not being particularly a Royalist. What has stood out to me is Dignity and Respect. I despised the Royals for many years after Diana died and believed they were a waste of public money. But I've seen a different side to that story. And I'd rather have a Royal and the respect this particular one has generated throughout the World, than some nerd of a President, like David Cameron - who would cost us just as much - if not more. You wouldn't see the British public coming out in their thousands and thousands in the pouring rain, to celebrate them. Nor would you see them celebrate around the world. A truly dignified Head of State, who, as Jon said, stood unflinchingly on her feet for four hours or more to greet her public.

She made a promise when she took the throne - a position she didn't want, especially after her father died for it - to serve her country. And she's done it remarkably well, I think. And always with dignity.
Thanked: 2

You do actually sound quite Royalist Sharon! ;) :) Not that there's anything wrong with that! - I'm disinterested, more than anything, and not a particularly patriotic person, although I do agree that she has a job to do, and does and has done it remarkably well. - I'd much rather have a Queen, who let's face it, has no real power and is simply a symbol and a figure-head, rather than have someone like smarmy-faced Cameron representing our good nation. - Better to have a non-political figure-head, who by-and-large doesn't generate too much ill will.

Did the school kids all get some sort of memorabilia? I have a vague recollection we got a cup, saucer and plate in 1977. I think my mum has them in the "china cabinet"!
