Where does your 'signature' come from?

Mon Aug 06, 2012 8:50 am

Hi everyone... :)

Although I do recognise some of the signatures that you use, there are many that I don't.... How about an explanation?

Mine comes from a prayer that hawkwind incorporated into a song..

Black Elk Speaks

Grandfather, Great Mysterious One, you have been always, and before you nothing has been. There is nothing to pray to but you. The star nations all over the universe are yours. And yours are the grasses of the earth. Day in Day out, you are the light of things. You are older than all weeds. Older than all things on Earth.

Grandfather, all over the world the faces of living things are all alike. In tenderness they have come above the ground. Look upon your children with children in their arms, that they may face the winds and walk the good road to the day of quiet.

Teach me to walk the soft earth, a relative to all that is! Sweeten my heart and fill me with life. Give me the strength to understand, and the eyes to see. Help me for without you I am nothing. Hetchetu aloh!

Mine obviously refers to Leonard Cohen but not because I am a big fan.
It was during a Buddhist teaching about suffering, pain and loss and how to deal with it when my teacher quoted this line.
It was meant to remind us of the chances that lie in difficult experiences. We built walls to protect us from that kind of experiences but in the moment we open, there is the crack, the crack through which the light gets in... From the philosophical point of view it could be even deeper but this is not the place to discuss it ;)

Well, it's a music forum so I show a pic of what albums I've been listening to on my PC.

I have my media player plugged into Last.FM so that it records what I'm I'm playing. Then you guys can see the last few albums I've played.

By the way, if anyone wants to do the same, then just drop me a PM and I'll put up a post on how to do it :)

Last october, on the way back from our half-term holiday in the West Highlands of Scotland, we took the scenic route home. There are many 'scenic routes' in this part of Scotland of course... :)

On the shoes of the awesome (see what I did there?) Loch Awe we passed a stunningly beautiful church. On seeing to whom it was dedicated, it was clear that fate had played a hand!

Yes please John! - Always thought that was cool. 8-)

My current signature is from Apeman by The Kinks. Kind of sums up the simple, uncomplicated life I would like to be living. No bills, no mortgage. Get me back to the jungle! :D

I think I may have found mine in some inspirational poetry or similar place, it is from Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi. I found it to be very fitting for myself, and thus I kept it as a reminder.

Tom Simpson not long before he passed away on Mont Ventoux 13 July 1967 (though apparently it was made up by a Sun journalist who was not even there! Surprise surprise).
