I saw Deep Purple a couple of years ago.
It was a bit like watching Steve Morse and his backing band. Great guitarist.
I think Gillan has lost it but I never really rated him - Whisper it quietly but I prefer Mr Coverdale as DP's singer !

My 18 year old son saw Kasabian last night.
When I picked him up from the station at 00:45 this morning he was buzzing.
He said it was the "best gig he has ever been to."
Putting that into some sort of context..he has seen Rush, Queen, Muse, Gary Moore, Fish, Thin Lizzy, The Fratellis, Guns and Roses and Deep Purple. Now there are some pretty impressive live bands in that lot.
He was right down the front. He says that atmosphere was brilliant. The band was totally up for it. The crowd were still singing well after the concert was finished. Sounds like Kasabian are a band about to break into the big time.
It made me think how important the atmosphere is at a gig. Some bands just know how to get a crowd going. Some can have great sound and lights but the audience just doesn't get too involved so you leave the gig feeling there was something missing. You are right, Kasabian are a great band, bought Empire about 3 years ago on the recommendation of a friend, luved em since.
I remember when I saw Marillion the first time they ever played Hammersmith Odeon. "Script" had only just been released yet the whole audience was singing along to every word. Made hairs stand up on the back of my neck . I just knew I was watching my favourite band becoming a great band.
