Kayleigh - the name

Sat May 12, 2012 7:51 am

I don't live in the UK so I don't get to see English names on a daily basis. Visiting Norwich some time ago I spent some time in Jarrolds department store. At the end of my jolly time there I found myself at the till facing a young shop assistant with a name tag displaying KAYLEIGH. Somehow it was a moving moment - knowing that Kayleigh is an invented name, knowing that this name can only refer to this most elegant of songs by my favourite band. Suddenly I realised to what an extent other people's lives seem to be touched by Fish's words. I don't know inasmuch Fish has experienced such a moment, but since I was so proud as a fan, I can only imagine how it must feel for Fish...

Apologies if this is common knowledge, but how did Fish come up with the name? I have always assumed that it wasn't a real person, just a name that Fish decided upon, but have always wondered where the inspiration came from..

[Somewhere, deep in my long past memory, I seem to remember that "Kayleigh" was a combination of two names, but I may be thinking of another song entirely so apologies if this is b*ll*cks  ]

Wasn't he dating a girl called Kay Lee?

I think the name comes from the girl called 'Kay Lee', but it is about 2 or 3 girls itself.

Kayleigh obviously sounded better than 'Kay'

Fish invented name I thought, so none with same spelling can be over 28 years old.
