Heres the place to talk about Fish in general

The Ultimate Fish Compilation CD

So, just curious really.

If you were to knock up a compilation CD of Fish songs, which ones would you include.

So,
Not over 80 minutes
Fish material (can be Fish-era Marillion if you like that sort of thing :) )
Put it in play order

And if you like, explain why you've picked some songs or why they are in a particular order. Is there a theme or have you just cobbled together some songs randomly? The choice is yours.

I like this sort of thing, Fish solo only for me:

Vigil (plenty of competition for the opener- 3D etc but just has to be Vigil, as Fish said on the last tour it just seems more relevant as time goes by)
Brother 52 (punchy and distinctive)
Arc of the Curve (the balanced melodic hit that never was)
Manchmal (my favourite Fish track)
Jungle Ride (the live version where Fish roars the YOUNG....MENTAL.....JUNGLE!!! version is best)
Tilted Cross (simple, but a fine, fine song which should be a mainstay of the folk scene. Laura Marling should cover it)
Numbers (looking forward to the remix on this underrated rocker)
Dark Star (epic, awesome guitar at the end)
Raingods Dancing/ Wake-up Call ( eye of the storm, great lyrics)
Scattering Crows (great album closers abound in the catalogue, but this one just about tops the lot for me)

Hopefully that lot will fit in 80 mins. Conscious of the great songs not on there ( Company & Cliche? , but I'm happy with my choices as I think they flow)

Easily!! That's ten tracks, which probably average out at about 5-6 minutes per track. So you will probably have room for another five or six!!

For me, it would have to include the whole of Plague of Ghosts... I'll get back to you about the rest! :)

Mmmm......one to ponder over. :? - Think I'll stick to solo Fish also. - I'll come back to this with a list, but it will definitely include Moving Targets, which I honestly think is one of Fish's strongest solo tracks.

after much deliberation i finally decided on the tracks below although i have to say it was very difficult to leave several tracks out with regards to the 80min max ;) the likes of rites of passage, plague of ghosts, pipline, emperors song, etc......just had to go with a kind of traditional finale. all in all 78mins. harder than i thought to gel and leave songs out. :D

1. the field

2. so fellini

3. moving targets

4. brother 52

5. arc of the curve

6. sunsets on empire

7. long cold day

8. dark star

9. innocent party

10. big wedge

11. credo

12. internal exile

13. the company

Rab mate, you're not wrong! I pruned down hard (it's that time of year after all) but still ended up with a "best of the best" selection that came to over 110 minutes!! :o    Maybe my insistence that a certain track remain has been the root of these problems...?

Is this supposed to be a Fish compilation that I would make for my own enjoyment, or one that I think would represent Mr Dick in the best possible light to a non-fan? I could do either of course, but opted for option one.

Just doing the final arrangements and will be back later with the definitive list.

Probably. ;)
