fire and water, light and dark.
"in your hand a burning flame, a spark of life to touch the fuse , and blow these clouds away",

and I know Grendel will be one big party but one day I would love Plague to be done again complete with candles and heart-attack. And it should be filmed....

Jens wrote:I interpret it like this:

- raingods make rain

- rain quenches fire

- Zippos make fire

- rain prevents Zippos from functioning properly

so raingods with Zippos make attempts which they prevent themselves from ever being really successful - due to their own nature.

I think it`s a metaphor for those things you try which can never really work out,
simply due to what and who you are. You try and try, but simply for the fact that you are you, you could never possibly succeed.
You just waste time and energy and put yourself through the pain and frustration of continuously failing.

You keep standing in your own way.

I always thought of it more this way, like a contradiction. A Raingod with a zippo is like the biggest rain and the smallest fire.

But I am also partial to Stella's interpretation that there is a flicker of light or hope even in the darkest situations, which ties into the final part of the song "Make it happen".

I can see the lightning reference too. Either way, it is beautiful imagery.

I asked him about this yesterday and he said that the image of american soldiers about to torch huts during the war is the image that inspired the saying.

Hope that clears it up (it didnt for me!)
