There have been quite a few changes to the pubs in leamington since 3 years ago. Jug and Jester is now a wetherspons. In terms of something similar for Friday night with a live music license I could suggest Robbins' Well, they have accoustic evenings and is a reasonable size. I know of a pub very close to the assembly is re-opening this Friday, the landlord has some good plans which may include a beer festival one weekend in October. He would like some bands on as well although it is not the biggest place. It is the same landlord from the Townhouse which some people may know, it has a good jukebox. I don't really rate the sausage, Kelseys is a bit of a dive but it stays open til 3am. I have quite good knowledge of things pub related this end of town and know a few landlords/ managers so I'm happy to try to help if needed.
