Scary Moments

What up to this present time has been your most scary moment ?

Besides being told I needed a lump removing from my neck around 20 years ( turned out non threating :D ), my recent one was ( now remember I hate flying :D ) Me and the girlfriend flew out from manchester to Tunis, after flying around an hour the captain came over the P.A system to inform us he had a wee small problem which meant we had to land in Spain for repairs, you could hear a blinkin pin drop I'll tell ya, after landing we were ushered into the terminal to await the repairs, not 30 mins had passed when we were told we could board the plane again, how the hell can you repair something in half an hour that was sooooo important that we had to land ?, after much threating from the girlfriend I managed to board the plane, we took off only to be hit by the most awful turbelance I have ever been in, the steward who had been watching me had to come over and hold me down cause I lost the plot  , once he had convinced me there was nothing to be scared about he got me a very large drink. Not proud of what i did but I was scared " it-less ".

Sooo have you ever been really scared :D

at the moment, actually, going for an ultra sound wed, (girly probs), but years ago, wen i worked at butlins, we had a wild party, and then a pillow fight, which ended up with someone shoving a handful of feathers in my mouth, which i inhaled, it was awful, i could not BREATH, i really thought that was it, thank god, security came, and sorted me, i thought i'd had it!

being told I had the big C
being told the op my leave my face paralysed.
thankfully all worked out...

landing in Rostov airport in -25 degrees C, on a Don Avia Tupolev, whihc burst a tyre and slid off the end of the runway into a tree or 12....
you never saw me move so fast to get off a plane in my life... the russian escape slides give you nasty friction burns.....

but scariest was yesterday when I received a call on my phone.. it was mywife, completely in tears, unable to speak... or tell me what was wrong... it turned out she had heard on the radio about a dam bursting in Jakarata and 50,000 were dead... The dam did burst, some are dead, but it ws no where hear that number and nowhere near me. She had misheard something somewhere down the line... and had been trying for 5 minutes or so to call me, but was just gettign the ringing tone from my mobile

but just hearing how distraught she was , having tried various numbers with no success to speak to me, clearly getting more distraught with each attemtp, and hearing her say, "I thought I was never going to see you alive again"... scared me... I miss her and cant get home soon enough.

Scariest moments? Had a few, all of which turned into lucky escapes:

Sitting watching out the window of a Lufthansa 747 as it came within inches of skidding off the runway at Johannesburg International Airport (after making two previous aborted attempts to land)...... Just watching the strip of tarmac between the plane and the gras get narrower and narrower as the plane squirmed all over the runway and waiting for the crash (that never came thank god!).

Twice finding myself staring at firearms from the wrong end (once when someone tried to steal my car and once when a South African squaddie thought -wrongly- I was trying to run from a roadblock).

Had a few nasty moments while working in the Black townships around Cape Town during the unrest leading up to the first free elections in South Africa in '95.

Some make me smile now.... Some I still don't really want to think about even after more than a decade!
So here I am once more.......

years ago, we did a parachute jump, for charity, well, the plane held 6, i was going to be last on, cus then thought i could chicken out on my turn, my 2 'mates' frogmarched me to plane, to be told lastin, first out, well, sat on the edge of the plane, i would of done ANYTHING for that man to let me stay, but i had to go, and i FROZE,you got a 2way radio thing, and you gotta wiggle your legs so they know youre ok, you can hear them, they cant hear you, well, trust me, you forget all that, i'm screaming, ye, i'm ok, then kinda remembered the leg thing, and jiggled them about, then had to pull summat, and i'm scared to touch anything in case i disconnect parachute, but, got there, landed like a bag of s***, and then, talked about for ever, but, truly terrifying, and never again!!
