Re: General Chat Thread
Oh. Did England lose then?

I want a drink, I want a drink. To take all the dust and the dirt from my throat. I want a drink, I want a drink. To wash out the filth that is deep in my guts.... I want a drink.

arcademannequin wrote:Yet again, England fail to excite and entertain and go out like the bunch of damp overrated squibs they are. - Good luck to Germany, who have played by far the best and most direct football. - None of that 'passing for no good reason' like Spain.
If footballers were promoted and demoted like everyone else in a job in which good/bad performance dictates your salary and position, maybe England would buck it's ideas up; they earn small fortunes between them and yet when they are crap - especially in important competitons etc - nothing is ever done to 'encourage' the players to put in the effort next time.
If footie players were docked pay when they fail to perform consistently, maybe they would actually take their job seriously and regular weeding out of poor players would surely result in a better team? Admittedly, I know naff all about the politcs and management of football, so would be happy to be corrected/better informed on this issue....
Personally, I have no interest in football but accept it is one of our national sports and, as such, cannot understand why the people behind the England team's performance seem to do very little to try and return it to "Beautiful Game" status. I know that times have changed, money talks and there are probably more people employed behind the scenes these days, but it does seem to be more about the big names per se and less about performance. I really cannot imagine footballers in the past [pre-1970s]wanting to appear in Hello magazine etc or their Managers, Coaches etc being OK about it either; there were no footballers' WAGs popping up in the media with their fashion tips, clothing lines and tawdry lives back in the 50s and 60s, just blokes getting on with the job in hand and earning their [measly] pay.
When England went out last night [Dodge watches England matches occasionally], one of the commentators said that he felt the gap between the teams in terms of talent and skill was an embarrassment - a neat summation if ever there was one...
I'm gonna wipe those smiles of self-satisfaction from their eyes..

Re: General Chat Thread
I missed the footie, but saw the Italians celebrating while I was walking towards a bar in Soho, London. In my one night out in England with another friend we met a guy from Argentina in a bar, then we were asked if we needed an escort (or two) while we were walking back home, a bloke in a bike asked me "did you miss me, sexy?" as he was biking past and then said "I did". But the highlight of the night was when some random twenty year old showed me and my friend his balls (thanks, but I think I will pass). I know I should not have turned around when he said "do you like this ladies?" oh well...
I walked away while shaking my head, probably at my ingenuity.
All in all, a most interesting night out!
Off to Amsterdam now!

EPIDEMIC ALERT
it appears 80% of the English Male Species are suffering today from a new infection which spread quickly over the nation last night..
Englische Elfmeter-Krankheit
Its highly contagious but seems only to affect those suffering from an underlying infestation of Englandfootbalitis and Englandcanwinitis
It does nto affect those suffering from "Imnobotheredcoswedidnaequalifitis"

It is a matter of complete indifference to me.

Same here. - I watched the game, but if I'd painted a wall, I would have watched that dry instead.

If that was the highlight of your night Marina, I think I'd rather pass on a trip to Soho. - Not the typical warm English greeting, I can assure you!
Hope you averted your eyes.

I actually got a pretty good view.
Other than that, I really liked Soho.
