Do our partners like Fish and prog?

Postby arcademannequin on Sat Nov 20, 2010 10:51 pm

I was just wondering the other day (over a bit of an argument over music with my mrs!), whether we all live in harmonious households, where music is concerned? - Do our partners like the music of Fish, Marillion and prog in general, or do you find yourself banished to the spare-room in order to fulfil your prog-needs?

Personally speaking, my girlfriend adores jazz/funk and pop, and is addicted to the X-Factor!

She does like a few Marillion tracks, particularly Kayleigh and Sugarmice, but i think the rest passes her by.

Is there anyone else out there in forum-land whose partners are also missing that special Marillion magic?........And do we care?! :? :D
I realise I hold the key to freedom. I cannot let my life be ruled by the bloody threads on this Forum.

Fortunately the Conan household is harmonious in this respect! Although Dancing Beams brings other things to the table (such as Dido FFS!!), we are both passionate about Marillion, Fish, Genesis, Rush, Deep Purple.....

Still trying to convince her about Primus though... ;)

Mrs TNN has never been keen on Fish or Fish era Marillion however since going to see the acoustic Marillion gig last year she does like the H version of Marillion.
She likes Genesis and Pink Floyd and is going to the Steve Hackett gig with me in Leamington Spa this evening :)

Mine is not into Rock of any sort, he likes northern soul, motown, 80's, but not ROCK-having said that, he does like Internal exile, gentlemens excuse me,and thinks Fish is 'ok'-I only play my stuff when he's at the pub, strangely enough, I had a freind here the other week, and he saw a picture of Fish and myself, and thought it was a nice picture of me and Andy-well,tall, balding, cant see it myself, but has been commented on before-me, I just 'dream' ;)
As soon as you realise, I'm perfectly happy, if I'm left to decide the company I choose.

Well.....now there's discussion point ;)

Jenny likes 13th Star and really enjoyed the acoustic gig we attended together at Lincoln.
She really likes IQ in tact we're listening to Dark Matter right now
Likes quite a lot of Pendragon eg Nostradamus, Master of Illusion but doesn't like Pure :o too heavy for her
Collins era Genesis

Major issue is everything else, added to the volume I want to listen at and the quantity of "my" music :?

Suppers Ready not tolerated........Apocolypse in 9/8 = "get that crap off" :o  :o :o   :o

Andy calls my Slash cd a 'wee bang', that is, it goes whee when you throw it, and bang when it hits the wall!

My husband Martin has little choice but to listen to Fish and Fish era Marillion as I am playing nothing else at the moment (well maybe the odd bit of Hammill and VDGG). He thinks Fish is def. easier on the ear and is even beginning to comment on certain tracks. I was listening to Sunsets earlier today and Johnny Punter was playing. He clocked the lyrics and said "that's not like your Fish" so it must all be sinking in. He is normally more of a REM man himself but coming round. He is just an occasional music listener whereas I cannot live without! I normally go to concerts on my own (Marc Almond this week) but Martin is coming to the Fish gig in December as he will be filming it.
Romance lies in ruins. Let debauchery reign.

admission factor..

do I like Fish... yes..

do I like prog - some of it... it depends who and what they are playing, oh and define prog anyway......

not much time for Genesis... love Marillion... like early genesis - but no time for Hackett.... love Fish - no time for Marillion...... no time for Van De Graff, Love Little Feat..... Like Floyd - no time for Gilmour.... Like Floyd - like some of Water... can't stand 90% of ELP , Rush, they had a couple of hits.., love tull, have zero time for Pinapple Thief

Prog - too generic a term.....

Me - if I like it I listen to it, but refuse to have my tastes pigeon holed.. I know what I like... ;)
