do I like Fish... yes..

do I like prog - some of it... it depends who and what they are playing, oh and define prog anyway......

not much time for Genesis... love Marillion... like early genesis - but no time for Hackett.... love Fish - no time for Marillion...... no time for Van De Graff, Love Little Feat..... Like Floyd - no time for Gilmour.... Like Floyd - like some of Water... can't stand 90% of ELP , Rush, they had a couple of hits.., love tull, have zero time for Pinapple Thief

Prog - too generic a term.....

Me - if I like it I listen to it, but refuse to have my tastes pigeon holed.. I know what I like... ;)

My partner does not like 'prog'. More into eighty's pop ie. Pet Shop Boys, Spandau etc. But also later Genesis.

But neither am I into 'prog'. Apart from Fish/Marillion I listen to the odd bit of Floyd. Like Doc Bob said that is a wide label. As some of you posibly realise I very much like my 'goth' and a little bit of Tori Amos. Plus lots of pop.

There is some prog that I don't quite "get". I also love Blues, Soul, Funk, eighties cheese (Nik Kershaw, Spandau Ballet, Howard Jones, Simple Minds, Deacon Blue, Bow Wow Wow, Level 42...), also some of the more "Gothy" eighties/nineties stuff (Mission, Triffids, New Model Army). I love some rock and hate other rock. Limestone is a particular favourite, but I just can't get away with the Gneiss. Maybe it's that Keith Emerson?

To me there are two types of music:

1. Worth Listening To, and
2. Not Worth Listening To.

It matters not which genre the bands/artists hail from. If I like it I listen to it. I don't build walls around my musical taste and remain to be impressed and/or left cold. Rush for example. They have probably been my favourite band since about 1978 - but their recent "new" material leaves me scratching my head and saying "yeah... and?" on a regular basis. I am no slave to hagiography. As opposed to studying where Morten Harket goes for his holidays. That's more to do with "A-Ha geography". Just ask TNN... :D

Perhaps i should have called this thread 'Do you and your partner like the same music'?! - I wasn't trying to imply that all we listen to is prog, if such a genre exists?!

I decided to post it, when i realised that when either mine or Kathryn's music is on, we often find ourselves in seperate rooms, through choice. - The only shared musical love is James Taylor, who we've both seen live about ten times.

I am very lucky. Although my husband always said in the past, he is not a Fish fan, he accompanied me to about 20+ fish gigs in the last 3 years 8-) .

Saturday after the fine gig in Alzey he said that he is not crazy like me, he does not know the lyrics, does not insist going to the gigs  But he likes the music very much. I saw his eyes on Saturday (and I watched him in Haddington), he was really touched by the music....
And..... :D  He admitted that he might have converted to a fan :party2:

So, off to the next gig today in Aschaffenburg :D

Bearing in mind our 1st date was Marillion at Wembley in 1987 - I guess I was selective in my partner

Joking aside she loves Fish and Fish Marillion, Peter Gabriel, IQ, Magnum, 'some' Genesis - she loves the ones I hate and hates the ones I love...but only with regards to Genesis...bizarrely.

The same goes for my two daughters...for which I'm eternally grateful.

However - although I therefore have no problems playing 'my' favoured music - it does not mean I don't have to listen to whole plethora of pop-poo as well.

Some girls have all the luck ... Marc Almond, hmmm? Well... i must be part of the half a dozen guys in Portugal that know that Marc is still alive and kicking after Soft Cell. One of my favorite voices ever, so melodic, so sweet (don't start to think i'm gay,ok? :D ) , great songwriter too. He made some great, almost perfect quality pop albuns since the 80's , like "The Stars we are" and "Enchanted", and even darker records like "Open all night" are great. Never saw him live, 'cause he never came to Portugal, at least in the last 15 ou 20 years. You don´t know how much i envy you, girl! It's though to be peripheric. We have the sun, the beach, the food, the wine, but ... no Marc Almond, and rarely Fish (except in the ocean).

Hi there Lisbonfreak. If you haven't already got Marc's new (ish) album Variete then go out and buy it! It is brilliant! did you know that Marc covers one of Peter Hammill's songs - "Vision"? I like all sorts of music but have a particular fondness for 80s stuff - Soft Cell, Pet Shop Boys, Eurythmics etc. Also love Meat Loaf, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Pink floyd and all manner of other stuff. Definitely an eclectic music collection. Fish tops the lot at the moment though. You might envy me next week's concert but I most definitely envy you the sun!
