Sky, Stars, Northern Lights

Postby Jonb on Tue Jan 24, 2012 6:48 pm

So last week the BBC had the stargazing live and for the "dark/lights out" experiment it was cloudy.
Now we have what could have been one of the finest chances in decades for us in the UK to see the Northern Lights but it's raining and cloudy.
But on the link below there is a webcam (all sky) from Tromso, Norway. If you refresh you get a bit of a change each time.

and an idea of where the aurora is sitting at over the north

again, refresh for the latest

there are other webcams on the net.
Are any of our forum members fortunate enought to be more northern and see the show?

There were some amazing videos and photos taken last night - some from just down the road from here. Wish I had known, as last night was beautifully clear - unlike this evening!

Seeing the Aurora is definitely on my life's "to do list"!! 8-)

Wanted to see these lights after hearing about it on the news, but as usual, it was raining in Warrington. :(

Thing is, you can't guarantee you're going to see them anywhere. I have friends who have holidayed regularly in Scandinavia for years, often with the intention of seeing the Northern Lights. They have come back disappointed every time! - Who'd have thought you need go no further than Yorkshire!

Is that supposed to be a northerner? - Nice to see that sterotyping isn't dead. ;)
