Boo, they lost. The Netherlands team was superior so a fair win, but can I still hate them for a bit?

It just keeps getting better and better.
I've even been caught up in the volleyball, Handball, Hockey and Water polo !
Mo Farrar has joined Usain Bolt as a true legend.
The diving final this evening was fantastic. So close, Tom Daley was superb

And lets not forget that Ed Mckeever started the day so brilliantly with a gold medal in teh 200 metre kayak sprint .
Great to see my sport winning a gold.

I almost forgot. The women's mountain biking final was brilliant. Fantastic course. They must have been knackered when they finished.

Despite my opinionated views on it's 'music' content, I see after reading some of the press from around the world, that the closing ceremony was generally very well received. - One word that does keep cropping up in overseas papers is 'eccentricity'. :? - Not entirely sure what this is referring to. :?

Any overseas forumites wish to say which bits they found eccentric?! :? ;)

I guess a lot of my initial disappointment was down to some pre-ceremony hype, with the words 'Pink' and 'Floyd' being thrown about. My expectations were reaching fever-pitch, so you can imagine my utter dismay when some ginger bloke turned-up singing 'Wish You Were Here'. :x - Last time I was mistaken on the Pink Floyd front was when I thought I was setting the video to record a rockumentary, and ended up with an hour's worth of Judith Chalmers strutting about in a pink sarong.

Yes, who was that red-haired boy?

I loved the end with The Who, but I could have done without Jessie J and the others that came just after Fatboy Slim (I think it was). Great musical representation overall, but where was Radiohead? Oh and I love Annie Lennox.

Agree. Annie Lennox was great. So were the Kaiser Chiefs, Emeli Sande, and The Who. - Loved the bits with Freddie in them. Could have done with more of them. - The Lennon bit was nice also, and it's always great to see Ray Davies. Won't hear a word said against him, and if I do I don't listen!

I've no idea what George Michael was doing in the mix, but I suppose he makes a change from Elton and Macca!

As much as I like Madness, I thought their performance was quite weak, though I'm not sure how much this was down to dodgy sound quality.

Beady Eye were bloody awful. What's happened to your voice Liam? :?

She's not my cup of tea at all, but I suppose Jessie J was alright. She's certainly got a strong live voice.

No show from Led Zep?! How can you have a show on British music without them?

When I saw Annie Lennox come on I thought she had been looking at the 'dark angel' artwork from 13th Star.

George Michael was a far cry from what I remember him sounding like, and so were Madness. Loved Elbow too. I could have done without seeing Liam Gallagher's irritating persona and nasal voice. I had fun with 'always look on the bright side of life' and the audience seemed to enjoy that one too.

Of course there were many big names missing, I wish they had at least played some of their songs in the early montages (Led Zep, Radiohead, Elton John, etc), but it is hard to fit in so much music in one show. They could have made the Brazil segment shorter, we are going to have plenty of that in 4 years, and then maybe some more UK music could have been added. But it was a pretty good effort, nonetheless.

...Must admit, when they started showing all those pictures of David Bowie, I honestly thought he was going to step out retirement and treat us to Life On Mars. - How disappointed was I?! So many missed opportunities. :(

I hoped for the same, how many years has it been now?I really wish he'd tour again, but if he does not miss it or enjoy it anymore, I guess it won't happen.
