I smell a rat begining with G and H, lost time for soundchecks and nothing to eat cos of waiting around for RAT to do his soundchecks. No wonder sounds were not right!

Yep i was in Manchester last night, Fish was definatley teated like a support act and not co headliner, and the sound wasn't the best. Despite this Fish played a blinding set, The crowd where fantastic and very respectful of Fish listening to his every word. Even the People that came to see GH where saying what a great show Fish had put on. Forgotten Sons and Vigil where the highlights for me, even though they fudged up the begining of FS it was still blinding, during the quiet parts of both songs you could here a pin drop. The band where on top form considering what they had to work with, Franks Guitar Work was sublime. We left after Fish's set and from what i saw we were'nt the only ones, Don't know how many stayed to see GH. Never been a big fan of GH and after the way Fish has been treated then GH can go stuff himself (I'm being polite).

Glasgow next, Payback time indeed, Give em hell Big man

Thanks for a brilliant gig in difficult circumstances, unfortunatley can't make Lemmers    , but we'll see on the road next year :D :D :D

Nail > Head. Every cloud and all that.

I guess it's a long time since Fish has played second fiddle to anyone else! ;) Playing as a support act is always a bit of a poisoned chalice. But that said, not being given time to soundcheck is unforgivable. Whether it was due to ego or bad organisation, it's just not good enough. These people are supposed be professionals.

Still, must be good for Fish to be able to blow the cobwebs away! 8-)

The sound for Fish was not good. We could hardly hear Frank's guitar or Foss's keyboard when the whole band were playing. Even the vocals were muddy .
I have been to enough Marillion and Fish gigs to know when the sound is good and bad from everywhere in the venues including front, back, side, upstairs

.

As i said. Further back the soud was far richer and more balanced.

Its a theatre.....just like lemmers... Unless you turn some wedges round the high stuff goes over your head, and in the empire, the PA is set way high and way out to the side....

We were standing in the wong place... Further back was far better..

However, following Fish comments on Manchester, and remarks made on twitter by Gh to a matem, complaining about Fish's "treatment" , which got the response, "Fish is a close friend, He's happy we took a bit long, now go away you little man".

Well, a ) she was female... Anb b) i thnk Fish's comments kind of say it all..

The friend, a long time fan of GBH was then blocked by GH..

My opinion stands, Egoist.

I spoke to some people who were further back who said that the sound was OK but not brilliant.
As Fish has now written on Facebook they were aware that they were having sound problems.

The fact that Glenn Hughes sound improved dramatically doesn't support Doc Bobs view that being in the front meant that the sound is not as good as being further back

Sound can vary depending on where you are in a venue but I normally find that the smaller venues like Shepherds Bush usually have good sound throughout. Its the big arenas thatcan occasionally be awful.

A good example recently was at Pendragon at Leamington. We were by the mixing desk for the first hour and then we moved right to the front. The sound was excellent from both vantage points.
Also we recently saw the Waterboys at St Albans and we were right at the front and again the sound was perfect.
At both gigs I chatted to the sound guys afterwards and thanked them for doing a great job.

I wouldn't like to criticise Glenn Hughes. He put on a good show and when he spoke he was very grateful for the support from the fans etc...
However there was no way that both bands were treated the same apart from having the same length of set. If I had stumbled into the venue to just see GH I would have thought that Fish was the support act. GH had the back drop, the drum riser, impressive lighting and good sound and an encore. Fish had none of these things.

When we go to see Fish we expect high quality sound as well as great musicianship, lots of banter and stories and a set full of great songs. 75 minutes is just not long enough

I have been going to live gigs for the past 35 years and I have never understood why in most cases that support bands have to deal with bad sound.
In this day and age surely there is enough technology available to make sure that all bands have good sound.
As punters we pay a lot of money to go to gigs. If the main band is going to have a support act then the least they can do is make sure that they have good sound.

I will get off my soap box.... I still had a very enjoyable night :)

small point of order Andy. fish's comments about sound problems were at Manchester last night. Not London ;)

Funnily, Pendragon at leamington, I moved from the front to the back, as did a lot of people , cos the sound was better... Until the last track where they did the usual, upping the ante on the sound desk and started distorting the sound.

I'm sure GbH probably did sound better on Friday, the back line was further bsck on the stage, so less of the high frequencies went over your head... They also had a longer spund check of course, a confirmed by Shaun....

Will be interesting to hear how glagow goes.... Home turf for Fish :)

I stood just forward and left of the sound desk. The first 2 minutes of "Punter" was a bit fuzzy, but that was soon ironed out and I thought that the sound was excellent for the rest of the set.

I think that's it in a nutshell.

Some artists get away with a 90 minute set and the fans are happy. Fish delivers so much more and we adore him for it. When it's time for him to leave the stage in a set like this, you can't help but feel that he's just warming up.
