Singles that never were

Postby Friar Tuxon on Tue Feb 03, 2009 5:06 pm

Any thoughts on Fish-era tracks that perhaps should have been singles but never were?

Here's mine...

Jigsaw
Lords of the Backstage + blind curve (to the end of Mylo)
Childhood's End
Slainte Mhath
The Last Straw

The one that really stands out for me is Childhood's End - great vocals, great guitar solo! Was it never seen as a potential singel?

Totally agree - one of my favourite tracks would have made a good single IMO

The Last Straw would have made a great single and also agree about Childhoods End...A large number of singles were released from Misplaced and wonder if this restricted any other potential releases ?

Also think that Jigsaw would have proved a popular choice

I can't see Jigsaw as a single, to wordy by far for radio, The only missing single from the Marillo era is Blind Curve which I think would have done well

Blind Curve?! In what way is that a single?

I dunno, I think the band/EMI picked out pretty good singles from those first four albums, really. The only one I ever felt didn't really make for a great single was Heart Of Lothian - good song, but outside the context of the album, it really didn't make any sense at all. I tend to agree with Friar Tuxon that Childhood's End? would have made a much better single from Misplaced.

I reckon a radio edit of Jigsaw would have done well back in the 1980s. The chorus is melodic and the guitar solo is excellent. Much better than P&J which I've never really gone for.

I still think 'Childhood's End?' from 'Return to Childhood' would have been a great single + video.
