WHY do you like that song?

WHY do you like that song?

Postby dazed on Thu Apr 15, 2010 3:21 pm

I would be very interested to know WHY you like a particular/song/s by Fish/Fish era Marillion.
Obviously you don't have to write an essay unless you want to, but what do you like/identify with? Perhaps a previous romantic episode? ;)

Childhoods End- This song was very emotional for me. While Fish may not have meant it in this way the words struck home ' And it was morning and I found myself mourning, for a childhood that I thought had disappeared' and then the words of hope: So it's me I see, I can do anything.I'm still the child 'Cos the only thing misplaced was direction And I found direction There is no childhood's end'
I did have a difficult childhood including being adopted though I now know my birth parents. I admit to shedding many a tear while listening to this song.

Also I like the tension in a lot of the songs, say with Script and many others and the quiet-loud interchange.

Hope no-one minds this talk!

A very open honest post, Dazed, I feel for you, but know you're ok (ish ;) ) now. I relate to the script , for one reason, I discovered Marillion when Leanne's ex brought La gazza ladra to our place one night, having just set up home with, what I thought was the 1 for me, he was funny to the extreme, and I truly loved him, but, then, his true colours showed, and he went, and I sat for weeks playing that song over and over,it had to be done, else I would of gone mad, well I nearly did, but , hey, wont go on, but, thanks for that song, it kept me going whilst I tortured myself, and came thru. End of, sorry if I've bored anyone.
As soon as you realise, I'm perfectly happy, if I'm left to decide the company I choose.

The most poignant I think were when me and the wife were having a really bad patch, and close to splitting.

"Stand straight, look me in the eye and say goodbye
Stand straight, we've drifted past the point of reasons why
Yesterday starts tomorrow, tomorrow starts today
The problems always seem to be
We're picking up the pieces on the ricochet"

I sang that to her loud, and while I'm not saying that this alone saved it all, it brought tears to her eyes.

Also, in the same period, having named our daughter Kayleigh, I played it over and over to her.

Don't know about you, but our marriage was saved, and we've now clocked nearly 10 years, and stronger than ever.

But I still remember standing at the back door with that blaring out, and me singing louder.

Sorry if it brings a bad memory. :(

Pleased it all worked out for you, maybe if it wasn't for the best. However, your posts suggest it was.

See what I mean about the "family feel" to this place, random strangers, but you can talk about almost anything.

Thanks you two. Yes and I did feel a bit strange posting the original post, but as you say this place does have a 'family feel'. And if Fish can get up on stage and sing all that heartfelt stuff, I can put a few words here ;)

Just seen Dazed's new topic.
I can't think of any specifics although I can remember feeling very close to many of the lyrics on Fugazi.
The lyrics on that album are so raw and close to the bone.
Song lyrics always seem to mean more when you're feeling down and depressed and angry with the world.
