Chris The Sarf wrote:The most poignant I think were when me and the wife were having a really bad patch, and close to splitting.

"Stand straight, look me in the eye and say goodbye
Stand straight, we've drifted past the point of reasons why
Yesterday starts tomorrow, tomorrow starts today
The problems always seem to be
We're picking up the pieces on the ricochet"

I sang that to her loud, and while I'm not saying that this alone saved it all, it brought tears to her eyes.

Also, in the same period, having named our daughter Kayleigh, I played it over and over to her.

This part of the song is harrowing, heart breaking, painfully beautiful... I have run out of words... I think almost anyone would be able to relate to those lyrics.
I know I have.

I also can relate to Childhood's end, because the themes visited in that song, are thoughts I have had on more than one occasion and things I have felt I have lived, like losing and finding the inner child - and my deep set belief that we should never lose the inner child. I write poems/free prose myself, and I have touched upon that subject on more of one occasion, it is definitely important to me.

Another special one for me is Blind Curve, the music is beautiful and the lyrics that specially move me are: I just want to be free, I am happy to be lonely - because they come close to feelings i have. As a loner who would love to fall in love and stop being a loner, as a person who values freedom above all (but freedom from myself, my inner resistence to change, my own chains), and as a runaway.

And just so many Fish era Marillion songs touch me on really personal levels, that I would never finish writing about them.

Sure... I wouldn't know where to post them. I guess I can post at least one here (called The Child - how could I now be drawn to Misplaced Childhood when I heard it a couple of years after? ;) )

A poem about being reunited with the inner child... a bit cliche, but I like the sentiment in it. (my excuse is i was only 18 when I wrote it)
I am 30 now!

The baby cried
And the tear dropped,
Glistening in the pale sunlight
As leaves swirled
In lovely disarray,
Dancing to some unknown melody
The wind provided.
As I crawled on all fours
Once more,
Rediscovering beauty
And the child
I once had lost
Or left alone somewhere.
Reunited in sorrow
But no longer forlorn.
And though her smile was sad
And though she cried,
I found heaven in her voice
In those silent complaints
And pleading eyes,
That so narrowly missed
Untimely death...
I felt the child within me
Grown bitter with time perhaps
But yet she smiled...
And the trees bent over
To lay their fruits
At her feet,
And the birds sang sweet melodies
Of long lost love
And early promises
That died on young lips,
But where brought again to me
By the wayward wind.
Soft words clinging to me
Holding on with dear life
Lest my stubborn ears
Not hear...
Now I feel them embrace me
With soothing hands,
Whispering comforts
About gentle lives
Laying you down beside me
As you take your last breath
And I take mine...
Sleep now my sweet child
And I'll close me eyes
Sleep now,
We are together at last.

That is just beautiful beyond words. - Please may we have a thread up for posting our own poetry? -

I've always had a special affection for Jigsaw. It's just such a beautiful song. - Mark Kelly's magical keyboard, coupled with Fish's most heartfelt and direct one-liner - 'Stand straight. Look me in the eye and say goodbye'. - It's funny how critics accused him of over-complication.
