Why does Fish not posting here make him an arrogant man?
That is some weird unfounded logic. I'm sorry, but as much as I would love to see more posting here, that claim just does not make sense.
I have not met Fish so I have no idea what he is like in real life... although we might all have preconceived notions of what some person is like (in particular famous or relatively famous people) - I do not think it is fair to them (or even right) to draw our own conclusions about what they are and what they are not, unless we have actually met them in the flesh.
You are welcome to like the music or not, this site or not, and voice your disappointment, just don't be too rash to sign someone off as arrogant, is what I think I am trying to say...
anyway my two cents, pennies, centavos...

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.

Lady41 - your post has made us re-evaluate but I still say Fish is NOT found wanting.
I shall never forget the crushing disappointment when Fish left Marillion - in some ways I too 'left Marillion' as the thought of listening to them without him fronting left me stone cold - still does. After Vigil/Internal Exile - I drifted away from not only his music but all music as family matters (babies!) took precedence. As 'life' improved I went back over his back catalogue and caught up - it was like catching up with an old friend and I've never looked back.
As to Fish - the man - I can only say as I have found.
I never cease to be amazed how open, accepting, honest and accommodating he is. Yes I/we have put him on a pedastal - but he still has the ability to look you in the eye and make you feel unique.
When my wife was diagnosed with cancer I asked Elspeth if Fish would send her a signed pic to cheer her up - I won't go into details as to what happened next - but 'the man' responded and my wife (& I !) were given a massive lift.
When 'we' have attended gigs since then - even with our children - he has taken time to acknowledge us.
What more can a punter ask of someone in the public gaze!?!?
I can think of no other 'star' who gets anywhere near Fish's approachability or accessibility.
Yeah it'd be cool if he posted on this forum more often - but as has been said by those who've replied to you earlier that's not realistic - but it's great we can read his FB postings on this forum.
I suspect that intially when Fish discovered FB he accepted lots of friend requests from fans - then realised this wasn't going to work as it would make his 'wall' another fans website. It was only after a while I think policy changed to make his DD page personal -and the Fish page more general. I don't have a problem with that and I can't understand why anyone else should if I'm honest.
For me - I love his music - and the man behind it is genuinely a good man. That combination is extremely rare these days which is part of the reason why I'm still here and proud to be part of 'The Company'.
Lady41 - stay - keep with us - keep enjoying the music - lower your expectations of 1 to 1 communication and see the man for who he is not for what you want him to be.
Simon.

That's it in a nutshell. Well put.

Re: Ramblings of an insane mind
Well, I'm gonna try and be polite---having been lucky enough to meet Fish several times now, he is honest, open, doesnt suffer fools gladly, but, as has been said, has not had it easy the last couple of years-he is genuine, a master of lyrics, his solo stuff is AMAZING-he is genuine, very talented, and, the Derek Dick on facebook is very open, funny and honest- I am lucky to be on there.Thats me said. Now I need a drink to calm down.
As soon as you realise, I'm perfectly happy, if I'm left to decide the company I choose.

Well it's certainly interesting that she hasn't been back since posting her thoughts...
Shame, because in a way I can see where she is coming from. I think she went way beyond fair in what she said, and it became a bit of a character-assassinating, rambling tirade... but I too miss Fish's regular contributions to this site. Yes, I know WHY that is the case, but I can still miss his blogs and posts can't I?
Maybe I should move with the times and get more Facebook-savvy? Or maybe not.

Re: Ramblings of an insane mind
Allow me to give some of my own perspective here:
I am a huge Queensryche fan. For anyone that's tried to get on their website/forum, the only way to be allowed to post on their message board is to become a member of their fanclub. As I read the information regarding the "benefits" of actually being in the fan club (i.e. backstage passes and meet and greets at certain locations, a t-shirt, autographed photo), I doled out $35 to become a member of the Q/R fanclub. (Note, this was a 1 year membership only, each subsequent year costs an additional $30).
Imagine my surprise when I found that my $35 got me ONLY an autographed picture of the band (and not a good one, at that), a window decal, and access to the website. I later found out that in order to get backstage passes or meet and greet passes, I would have to enter via a lottery process, and hope I was lucky to get chosen.
I joke about being the poor fan, but really, I don't have the time nor money to attend numerous concerts for the same band. I was going to attend exactly ONE Q/R show, which is all I could afford. Imagine my despair when I saw other members of the fan club bragging about the 4 or 5 shows they received backstage passes for, while I couldn't even get one. Needless to say, it left a very bad taste in my mouth regarding fan clubs of any kind.
Now, I did get to meet Fish in Milwaukee, and yes, I admit to being an idiot at the time. Although Fish publicly mocked me on stage afterward, the way in which he did it allowed me to laugh at my own stupidity. Could I have taken this as arrogance? Absolutely. However, when I put things into perspective, which is more arrogant--the person that is honest and sincere OR the band that counted their money all the way to the bank and forgot about the every day fan.
I'll stick with Fish, thank you very much.
