I'm all for listening to new albums fresh and without prior knowledge.
God bless Tommy Vance, but I remember listening to a Friday Rock Show interview with Fish and Mark Kelly a long time prior to the release of Clutching at Straws.
During the course of the interview Tommy played Incommunicado, Slainte Mhath/Torch Song and White Russian. Naturally I recorded it on a C90 tape (remember them?) and of course I played the new tracks to death. Come the release and purchase of the new album, I felt that I'd let myself down and cheated myself as I only had six new tracks to listen to.
Its a feeling that has always stayed with me. Hence I didn't listen to any of Fish's 13th Star 'work in progress' tracks that he played on his radio show, or neither did I download for free the Marillion 'Happiness' albums when I knew that the CDs were coming. Was tough going though.
