Oh, for a re-release!! - I'll never find it again!

I'm all for listening to new albums fresh and without prior knowledge.
God bless Tommy Vance, but I remember listening to a Friday Rock Show interview with Fish and Mark Kelly a long time prior to the release of Clutching at Straws.
During the course of the interview Tommy played Incommunicado, Slainte Mhath/Torch Song and White Russian. Naturally I recorded it on a C90 tape (remember them?) and of course I played the new tracks to death. Come the release and purchase of the new album, I felt that I'd let myself down and cheated myself as I only had six new tracks to listen to. :(

Its a feeling that has always stayed with me. Hence I didn't listen to any of Fish's 13th Star 'work in progress' tracks that he played on his radio show, or neither did I download for free the Marillion 'Happiness' albums when I knew that the CDs were coming. Was tough going though.

I don't think there has been one single Fish album that I have heard a clip from before I have had the actual album itself. - Saying that, I've always been one of those people who likes to listen to whole albums in their entirety. Especially a good concept album. - Never been a fan of compilations, unless it's a live cd.

I agree! This may sound silly but to me previewing clips of an album kills the magic of the whole "anticipation-buying the record-listening for the first time" process. :P
The vast majority of the music on my iPod is listened to within the album context, to me it has a magic.

I have no desire to hear a song before the album release. Never had. I am a patient person.

I really miss going into a local record shop to buy music. I lived in Minnesota, USA most of my life, and it was sometimes quite the quest to find my favorite musicians' releases. I loved every minute of the search. I also miss buying albums from artists I did not know simply because the cover art was interesting. I always found that to be fun and it really expanded my music world.

I do, however, love that I can download (buy) otherwise unavailable songs.

Hoping I feel differently, nearer to the Convention, about hearing Feast Of Consequences stuff. It will be the first time I have heard new Fish material before being able to sit down and really get into the album properly. - I absolutely understand the need for Fish to try his new material out though.

Makes me wonder just how much of the album he will have down by then. Are we likely to get a complete run- through, or will it be the odd song or two?

I would reckon about half to three quarters of the finished article Paul!, i am only going by what fish/marillion presented in their xmas tour of 84' (aaahhh! those headdy nights!) when they first played "side on 1 and side 2" of the now acclaimed! "MISPLACED CHILDHOOD" album!

All i can say is take your time bigman! "PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE!" "GREAT THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT" :D

i think you'll find it is still very much work in progress with stuff at the conceptual stage, according to the info made public so far.

The intention is sitll to play the album in its entirety at Leamington, and if this does happen, what greater a treat can Fish offer his fans, the first public play through of new material.... "you heard it here first!" so to speak....

I really hope it happens!....

Whatever is played at the convention will be a treat. Personally, if the new material is not quite ready, I'd rather wait than hear "works in progress". That said, often bands will get tracks up to a certain point in the rehearsal studio and then take them out on the road. Depending upon audience reactions and musical 'evolution', the version that is finally recorded can be quite different...

Fish is the ultimate pro. He's been doing this for over thirty years! Whatever decisions he makes will be for the right reasons and the results will be worth waiting for - even if we have to wait a bit longer than expected. But hey, it's been five years now anyway so another few weeks won't hurt will they? ;)
