Re: FIsh's Lyrics set in stone
Was just going to post a thread of my own about it! Just been reading about it on BBC Teletext. - I think it's just brilliant.
- There can't be many lyricists that have been honoured in such a way.
It's also great to see Fish-era Marillion still being mentioned and wrote about on a national, mainstream channel.

I realise I hold the key to freedom. I cannot let my life be ruled by the bloody threads on this Forum.

I think he should get a royalty payment for every foot that treads on his art!
What a great story!

I want a drink, I want a drink. To take all the dust and the dirt from my throat. I want a drink, I want a drink. To wash out the filth that is deep in my guts.... I want a drink.

That's a wonderful story. A beautiful tribute and nod to the past. Thanks for sharing.
Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.

Re: FIsh's Lyrics set in stone
For some bizarre reason, I always thought Kayleigh was set in Cambridge - probably because Garden Party [ i think], mentions "punting on The Cam" - due to the "moon-washed college halls" and "dancing in stilettos..." lyrics.
It's nothing to do with my being a provincial, ex-Oxbridge student [no effin' way would i be allowed even a sniff of their rarified air...], just the images conjured up by other threads of imagery through Marillion's early songs.
And can i just add.. I am the only one who imagines that it's Fish dancing in stilettos through the snow? I always have this image of my beloved Fish doing a Dick Emery - "Ooh you are awful..." before his ankle goes over and he hobbles off, bow legged [it's why i do not possess a pair of heels - I AM that character if i wear anything higher than 2 inches, and even THAT is a struggle sometimes]. Sorry Onkel Fish - no offence meant
Huge congrats to Fish and Marillion for recognition well-deserved and to the forward-thinking "officials" who decided to do the deed - not all "suits" are bad it would seem

Very amusing post !
The idea of Fish dancing in stilletos ! That would out do even Queen's famous cross dressing video of I want to break free !
On the subject of Kayleigh, Zaz and I recently tried to sing it in a Karaoke. Its really difficult to sing !

Well Fish does say that he had two relationships one in Galashiels and one in Aylesbury and that the song considers both.
I've always thought that its a great lyric.
There are lots of Market Squares out there !
Interestingly when I recently moved and separated from my wife my solicitor's and estate agents both had addresses in "Market Square". I thought that was a good omen.

Re: FIsh's Lyrics set in stone
Whenever I am in a Market Town, I just have to find the Square and stand there thinking, "Ooh, I could be a hero here..". Sad, but true.
On a similar note, years ago I worked at the dreaded DSS [as it used to be called] and tried to be a VERY civil Civil Servant - I was always polite and friendly to people signing on, and my mate and I often worked the Enquiries Counter; He was also extra nice to people, as we both thought that there was no need to be officious jobsworths just because we were dealing with Unemployed peeps.
My mate coined the term "Counter Revolutionaries" for those of us who were nice to people, who treated them like human beings instead of "dole scrounging punters" and it's always stayed with me. Happy memories of happy daze [most of the time..... there are some VERY scary people out there indeed; just paid them on the spot to get them out of the Signing Hall, lol, but we still treated them with respect. Drugs and alcohol can do bad things to good people, I never forgot that].
Stella Forever ;-D
