Things you always wanted to ask Fish

Postby andriyt on Sun Jun 21, 2009 3:18 pm

Please read this thread and look at Fish's answers to find out if your question has already been asked. If it hasn't, please add it at the end of this topic by clicking the "Post reply" button.
When Fish answers a question, this thread will be locked temporarily while the question and answer are moved into a new topic. If this thread is locked, please wait a moment or two and then try again.
If you have more than one question to ask, please make more than one post so that Fish can quote your question with an answer.
When a question has been answered and is in a new topic, please don't ask another question below that - use this thread.

Could I please ask everyone to take note of the fact that this topic is only for asking Fish a question.

If you want to add a comment, please do so AFTER Fish has answered or in another thread, not this one. The questions and answers will be split into new topics very quickly so please wait until they've been separated.

If you want to answer someone's question, please do so by private message to them. Questions have been asked here for Fish to answer.

This might sound a bit strict (sorry! ) but please consider that Fish reads through for questions to answer and has to trawl through chatter to find them! Also, members have taken the time to add a question only to see it disappear into the distance. Please be considerate!

Comments and chatter will be deleted from this thread from now on. Thanks everyone! :hatoff:

Sorry if this is something you don't want to talk about but...
your name comes up as a potential replacement for PC in Genesis 1995/1996.
Any truth to this? If yes, how far did it go? Did you audition? What are your feelings on TB and MR? How do you feel about the whole thing?
Thank You.

Dear Fish,

Greetings from California! I am a huge 18 year old fan of all your work, and am wondering, are any plans for a new album in the near future? 13th Star was an absolute masterwork, and I'm dying to hear some new material!

Very truly yours,

Paul

Faith

Postby Rattler347 on Fri Jan 28, 2011 6:30 pm

Fish,

I have been an avid fan and have followed your career from the States since the early 1980's. It was fun collecting those early Marillion LP's as many were hard to find over the big pond here in the west.

My question is this: Are you a man of faith? How would you describe your faith or religious feelings?

As I listen to much of your lyrics there is a theme in there that can easily be labeled religious or spiritual. There is much talk of things above, redemption and hope for things reconciled. There is an especially poinient set of lyrics in Vigil that come to mind right away: "Is there somebody up there? Could you throw me down a line? Just a little helping hand, just a little understanding; just some answers to the questions that surround me now". And later on, "Just a little guiding light, to tell wrong from right..."

I'm very curious to your answer.

Blessings!

Hey, Fishy-boy!

Jigsaw, off Fugazi. I know you're a fellow given to dispelling personal ghosts lyrically .... so, not wishing to play seances here, but was there a particular period of experience behind that lyric, or was it synthesised from generalities?

Take care, big man.

Herer's a question that only one person can answer -

One of my old friends always used to tell a tale that we were never sure if true or not.

Apparently whilst driving home, from the Garden Party at Milton Keynes Bowl 1986, his car broke down on the M1 (I think he had an orange Hillman Avenger at the time). He said that whilst stuck on the hard shoulder, head under bonnet, that he heard a voice behind him asking "if he needed any help". Upon turning round was confronted by Fish himself and my friend replied "No, he was fine thanks". Then Fish got back on the tour bus and left.

Is there any truth in this story? or was he indeed off in lala land? :D

Not wishing to appear rude, but does Fish actually ever answer any of these questions? Or am I missing the responses because I'm not yet totally sure how the site works or where to look for the answers?? Doh  Just doesn't seem like he makes much of an appearance, really. Just wondered, like (as you do).

He does. When time allows and a particular question takes his fancy... many of them have of course been asked many times before...! ;)

Teh question and then the answer are split off and are posted in separate topics here:
