Derek Dick Well the day of days comes to a close as we prepare to bed down on the couches in the "Chocolate Delights!" lounge with a few Japanese tourists.That is security allowing as we just got cased and a walkie talkie was used discreetly.Maybe have something to do with the FTC and the miniature bottles of wine on the table.Foss missing and trapped in a 400 deep Q at security that is manned by 4 unfortunates pretending to be efficient in the storm of night movers.A stern young jobsworth made me switch on the pc and show programmes while ignoring the chunk of Nikon and all the cables and electrics in my rucksack while the Q extended.A couple of Polish teenagers in front of us had a PC swabbed and were then asked questions for ages on where they bought it/who owned it/how much was it etc etc Totally OTT and all the time the Q snaked back into the terminal as 4 security staff played at being "guardians of the Western World".Best laugh was the live rabbit in a cage too big to go through the X ray machine.Had to snigger at the fear as he reached inside for a fumble (Only a rabbit he says, only a bloody rabbit!"). Been a long cold day overall and totally gutted we lost the gig -again!! All seemed ok on fight until we hit the Dutch coast and the captain told us we were diverting to Brussels to refuel as Schipol was closed due to a heavy snow storm. The rest is all on the Tweets that kept me sane as they allowed us to use mobiles when the lane was parked up tantalisingly 700m or so from terminal buildings.They wouldn't let us off the plane as there was no agreement with the Belgian airport authorities. It could have been handled a lot better in my opinion.Everyone involved was caught out. 34 planes diverted to Brussels and only 2 fuel trucks and one de icer unit available.The ploughs didn't start clearing until well late on and the plane next to us was de iced, moved to the runway and then towed back as they couldn't take off because of the snowfall. We can't fly direct from Edinburgh to Berlin and have to use a hub.Ridiculous for the Scottish capital city.We could have flown Easy Jet direct to Berlin from Glasgow but the German promoters went for the KLM option. I will say that the stewardesses were helpful and friendly and the 5 hours didn't drag as much as they could have.There was no tension and everyone just accepted it. I did think of playing a few songs but Frank reminded me the inflight PA was shite and even the dim prospect of securing a couple of bottles of wine for our efforts couldn't inspire us.Especially as I would be singing into a mike attached to the wall! The plane was dry on the ground as they don't have a drinks license.Probably bollocks but there was no moving them and alcohol might have changed the atmosphere for the worst. And so we arrived to face chaos and Q's in Schipol.We gave upon the hotel as there were over 300 people fighting for attention at the service desks.It could have taken another 2 hours to maybe find a room somewhere out of the airport and with an early flight we opted for the terminal. Yatta was the worst affected as he has meds in the suitcase somewhere in the airport on a plane.He also doesn't sleep well and the day took it out of him. He's curled up at the moment but I hope he sees the night through in zed land. So we focus on the flight and the gig in Magdeburg. Truly sorry for fans who made the effort to get to Wusterhausen, some for the 3rd time.We tried but as the day dragged on in Brussels and we heard the Berlin flights had gone from Schipol the chances of it happening slipped away. Maybe I'll get some sleep tonight, I hope so, it's a shit environment and coughing Japanese in the corner don't help matters. I stare ut te window in the "Chocolate Lounge" at the freezing conditions outside and thank the big man that I am not out there sleeping rough in the streets as a lot of people are in Europe tonight.

Derek Dick Returned to an empty Mousetrap and an unfired claymore! Great night with Tara.Frankie and Benny's steaks then a wonderful movie that had us both a bit wet eyed and hiding sniffles. Clooney as always delivered an excellent performance around twisted and blurred emotions and admit to feeling a bit close to the subject matter on occasions. Related strongly to the storyline on a number of levels and like leaving a theatre with something on my mind. Appreciated being reminded of the power of family and bonding.
